The Hi-Tek Soul event is Derrick May’s signature event that is based on the documentary film “High Tech Soul” that depicts the creation of Techno music in the mid 80’s. That was because that style of dance music was never heard of until Derrick May, Juan Atkins and Kevin Saunderson got together and started making techno music. The Hi-Tek Soul event has been a hit all around the world from San Francisco to Japan. Not to mention it's residency at the world’s most famous nightclub, London’s Ministry of Sound. Derrick May, along with his collegues Stacey Pullen and Kevin Saunderson, re-branded their soulful and groovier style of Techno/Tech-house to Hi-Tek Soul. Before there was house music, raves, trance and progressive, all dance music was called techno.
Now Hi-Tek Soul has made its premier at some of the top venues and events in cities across the globe. Just in the last year Hi-Tek Soul has appeared at cities and clubs such as: Ministry of Sound - London, The Arches - Glasgow, Shine - Belfast, The Rex - Paris, Cafe D' Anvers - Antwerp, Oceans Rooms - Brighton, Peppermint Club - Bahrian, Miss Libertines - Melbourne, Pacha - New York, Sullivan Room - New York, Club Yellow - Tokyo, Precious Hall - Tokyo, Ahega - Tokyo, Florida 135 - Barcelona, The Loft - Barcelona, Glade Festival - UK, Monegros Festival - Spain, Warsaw - Poland, and many more.
The Hi-Tek Soul 2008 WMC party will truly be one of the most unforgettable events. This year its a more intimate free event, where else on a Saturday can you see some of the legends of techno and house perform for free. The lineup is truly unique; the DJ’s are legends that have made an incredible contribution to the electronic music scene, and now you can get a front row seat to see them perform in an intimate outdoor 200 person venue.
