Deep Blue and Jack Hammer Disco are bringing you Derrick May to Public Works. Derrick May is not only a techno legend who is credited with starting techno music along with Juan Atkins and Kevin Saunderson in Detroit, but one of my all time favorite DJs. I used play a progressive style of deep house music, borderline trance, until one night in the the start of the year 2000 I heard Derrick May play. I will never forget that night. I had my first residency at 550 Barneveld and would hang out there regularly. One night I came and saw the dance floor being rocked like I had never seen it before. Groovey, powerful sounds but it was very minimal. Just enough melody to keep it interesting, the grey area between house and techno. BUT the energy on the dance floor was infectious. 800 heads were jumping and moving with all eyes on the DJ. I made my way to the DJ booth and it was DERRICK MAY. He was sooo into it, and that was a big part of what sucked in the crowd into his groove. Right then I knew that is the style I wanted to play and the next day I started playing more techno and got into the house groove. I tried to bring him to SF many times but he was hard to find and book. Finally in 2006 I exchanged messages with him and made it work. Since then I have done multiple shows and gigs with him, not to mention a couple of WMC events together. I cant wait to share his music with the new generation of underground heads and have the old timers like myself reconnect through his music. As far as DJ skills goes, Derrick is one of the all time best. New school DJ kids should come and learn from him. Want to see who's going? Check out the Facebook event page.

Daniel Bell is an American minimal techno DJ. He collaborated with Richie Hawtin as Cybersonik for three years on Plus 8 records. In 1991, he started his own label, Accelerate, where he released a string of influential releases as DBX. Bell was influenced primarily by Chicago House as well as the works of the minimialist composers Steve Reich and Philip Glass. His productions are characterized by minimalist house grooves accented by blips and bleeps. Some tracks feature bizarre voice effects and eerie atmospherics such as 1994's delay driven "Losing Control". In 2000, he relocated to Berlin, Germany, and released his first mix CD, The Button-Down Mind of Daniel Bell, on Tresor Records. 2003 brought a follow-up release on Logistic records, The Button-Down Mind Strikes Back and soon after a retrospective was released: Blip, Blurp, Bleep: The Music of Daniel Bell'. This Saturday Deep Blue is very excited to host an intimate show with Shonky from Paris at Monarch. I have been playing his remixes and productions for 5+ years now and they are all soooo fucking good. Back in 2006 he did a remix for Anja Shneider, Rancho Relaxo that was a bomb! Then in 2009 I was rocking his track, Carnage on Freak N Chic. And in for the last couple of years I have been playing the hell out of his remix for Lee Foss, Your Turn Girl and Close to the Edge which he made with Dan Ghenacia, which were two massive bombs. Check his live mix from the Standard rooftop party in LA here.  Funky techno with a housey groove and a lot of melody, the perfect balance for underground house music. Cant wait to hear him live. Glad to be back at Ruby Skye, one of the most well known night clubs in SF history. Not to mention, they have one of the best big room sound systems in San Francisco. I started out my first residency at Ruby Skye back in 2001 (12 years ago), wow, Im getting old :) I have spun there for many years at memorable moments like the Ruby Skye anniv where I spun in between Derrick Carter and Ferry Corsten. Our last Deep Blue party with Lee Burridge at Public Works was insaaane!  Everyone who was there knows that this is one party that you should not miss.  A packed house with incredible energy. Check out the photos here.  Expect a packed house with explosive energy on the dance floor, lots of hands in the air and flashing cameras, late nights to mornings, ... a night that you cannot miss! What can I say about Lee Burridge? Lee is always trying to stay ahead of his game as the underground dance music is always changing and evolving. The UK DJ/Producer introduced me to big and mean basslines in the early 2000's. One of the first innovators to introduce the mix of breaks and 4x4 beats into house music. Lee was discovered at an after hours club in Hong Kong in the 90's by Sasha and Craig Richards who at that time were the front runners of the UK house scene. Sasha and Craig asked Lee to join them in a new project, Tyrant. Since then a residency at Fabric in London, two mix compilations on Global Underground, two Tyrant mix compilations, and a Balance mix compilation. Not to mention productions on labels like Cecille and Leftroom records and collaborations with artists like Matthew Dekay, Tim Green and Steve Porter. And of course, performing every weekend at the most popular electronic dance music clubs and festivals across the globe. This month Deep Blue is teaming up with SF house music poioneers, Om Records to bring you a special show with Radio Slave. Radio Slave aka Matt Edwards is Rekids record label co-founder. He produces quality music under a number of different guises such as Quiet Village, Sea Devils, REKID, The Machine. Over the last 5 years, as Radio Slave, Matt has released a string of underground club hits on Rekids such as "My Bleep", "Bell Clap Dance", The "No Sleep" series and the anthemic "Grindhouse". Aside from Rekids, Matt has released on a number of other esteemed labels such as R&S, Om, Running Back and Ostgut Ton. DJ Mag listed him as one of the greatest remixers ever, and also awarded him 'Best British Producer' in the 'Best Of British' awards. The man is an incredible DJ and is a master at moving dance floors. His musical style and sound is quite unique as well; its techno but with a very housey groove and lots of melody. His last few sets at WMC, BPM festival, and Circoloco have blown us away. That is why we wanted to bring him to SF to share that experience with you. The man is so good that the Circoloco folks made him a resident playing at almost every event this last summer. Not to mention his works with Dan and Shonky on Apollonia and Freawk N' Chic. Oh and his productions, they are bombs!!! We have been playing his stuff since the mid 2000's. Deep Blue and Public Works are teaming up to bring you rare show with both Tiefschwarz bros playing together on the Function 1 sound at Public Works.  Not to mention an amazing lineup in the upstairs loft with Sunshine Jones from Dubtribe and SF underground legend, Jeno from the Wicked crew.  The last time both brothers played together in SF was about 4-5 years ago and it was a packed house.  The Souvenir Music records bosses, know how to work a crowd.  Not only are they amazing producers, they are professional DJs with over 20 years experience moving dance floors. These guys are a big deal!  With over 100's of remixes and original productions and multiple mix compilations under their belt they are a fixture in the underground house and techno industry.  From producing amazing underground tracks on labels like Classic, Cocoon, Viva and collaborations with Cassy, Jamie Jones and Seth Troxler. To remixing the biggest names in the industry like Madonna, Depeche Mode and Groove Armada. Not to mention headlining at the top clubs, and performing LIVE at high profile events and festivals across the globe.
